International Day of Disabled People 2010
Include: Observance of the Day provides opportunities for participation by all stakeholders – Governments, UN system organizations, civil society and organizations of persons with disabilities – to focus on issues related to the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the MDGs.
Organize: Hold forums, public discussions and information campaigns in support of the Day focusing on disability issues and development, finding innovative ways and means by which persons with disabilities and their families can be further integrated into the development agenda.
Celebrate: Plan and organize performances everywhere to showcase – and celebrate – the contributions by persons with disabilities to the communities in which they live as agents of development and change.
Take Action: A major focus of the Day is practical action to mainstream disability in all aspects of development, as well as to further their participation in social life and development on the basis of equality. Take action to highlight progress and obstacles in implementing disability-sensitive policies, as well as promote public awareness of the contributions by persons with disabilities to the development of their communities.
I see no joy in celebrating this day dedicated to disabled people. The only reason I am writing this is to put on record my disappointment at how, despite promises and assurances by top politicians, people in high government positions, people who can effect change from both sides of the political divide, barriers that have been preventing full participation by disabled people have not been eradicated.Talk is cheap. I have heard ministers, wives of ministers and government officials talk about making life easier for disabled people. Many of these “positive announcements” are archived in this blog. As far as I am concerned, nothing has changed. 1Malaysia kah or Rakyat Didahulukan kah, disabled people are still marginalised in every way through ommission, ignorance and discrimination. The people in government should stop talking and start working towards achieving equalisation of opportunities for disabled people. Just resolve our issues. It is as simple as that. We do not need the government spending money celebrating this day but not doing anything afterwards. No thank you!

A Treat for MYSELF
Hah dah seminggu ni KalEl asik shopping aja. Bolehkatakan hari-hari la ada saja yang dibeli. Kal El kemaruk shopping ni kerana kebosanan agaknya.
Alhamdulillah mata Kal El ok cuma kene pakai reading glasses (yup mcm orang tua), ortho wise kene pi rehab aka physio pada 27 Oktober.Rena pun ok tapi kene buat blood transfusion sebanyak 4 pint masa dialysis nanti sebab hemoglobin agak rendah.
Alhamdulillah semuanya stabil sebab tu lah Kal El happy and treated myself to a bottle of perfume today (alasan!)

Parking OKU

Luahan Hati Seorang Adik/Abang

Sesekali bila datang menjenguk bersama si Makcik berkerusi roda, mukanya masam mencuka seperti terpaksa. Hati mana yang tak sayu melihat adiknya begitu?
Si Kakak pula rajin bertanya khabar melalui SMS walau amat jarang sekali datang menjenguk tapi soalan yang ditanya amat menyakitkan hati seperti "Kau sihat?" 'Huh, kalau aku sihat aku dah balik rumah" jawabku dalam hati. Dan bila Kal El dirumah pun walaupun dia tinggal amat berdekatan amat jarang sekali menjenguk dan bertanya khabar. Alasannya Kal El tak beri dia kunci rumah.

Alvin and The Chipmunks 2 n Chili's KLCC
It was Alvin and the Chipmunks and of course like the first installment of my all time favorite cartoon series when I was a kid (the first movie was better and funnier, I think!) we both enjoyed and laughed out loud especially when the female chipmunks were introduced as 'The Chippets' - somehow it brings a dirty meaning to those who understand what Chipet means hehehehe. (If you don't know gofind out) - well, when we were kids our minds were not as corrupted to even think the group's name sounded dirty... ish...ish...ish...naughty us! Overall, the movie was fun- who wouldn't enjoy the cute voices of The Chipmunks and The Chippets?
To note that was the first time I went to the movies on a wheelchair. TGV (at least at KLCC) is OKU friendly as they had ramps to the movie houses and they have seats specially for OKUs.
Before the movies we had dinner at Chili's. Heheheheh mana lagi kalau tak kat situ kan bila dah ke KLCC. I had the Cajun Ribeye Steak and KN had what else, the Country Fried Chicken. For starters seperti biasa, menu wajib - Nachos but this time with added Fajita Beef - hmmmm Chili's menu seems to change quite frequently lately ni... kejap-kejap lain and honestly I miss some of their old line up.
It was a fun night and KN promised to take me out to watch Muallaf sometime soon! Can't wait lor...
p/s I purposely spell Chippets for the kick - the correct spelling is Chipettes.

Hemodialysis Treatment at Ampang Hospital
One - it's a hospital. So apa-apa masalah (like sudden drop in blood pressure or Hb (Hemoglobin) level, dorang akan cepat bertiindak compared to other private, non-hospital dialysis centres. this isi because they do not have resident doctors. Nak amik darah pun result berhari-hari baru dapat. Ampang Hospital is a Blood specialist hospital, therefore any blood samples taken in the morning, the results will be out by afternoon the latest.
Kat Hospital Ampang (most of the part) memang macam dalam freezer so kene berbungkus ler macam Eskimo kejap heheheh... ni tengah dialysis la ni.Two - It's considered near jugak la to Bukit Antarabangsa and it's between home and work. So KN can drop me off on dialysis days and later pick me up (or papa picks me up and send me home)
Three - It's a government hospital. So, with my OKU card from Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat, I am entitled to free treatment. Dah tak perlu susah-susah nak apply for socso or any other forms of help. Leceh and takes time. Even if I have to pay it is really cheap - RM13 for hemodialysis treatment - sapa nak kasi lah?
Four - The staff nurses, medical assistants and PPK staff there are very good in their jobs and friendly too. Memang macam satu keluarga yang besar, boleh gurau-gurau, gelak-gelak and they are very sincere in the things they do for patients. Kalau kat dialysis centres lain, from what I have experienced before, tak berapa closely knit.
Five (reason paling best!) - They serve food! Dah la free, dapat meals pulak tu masa tengah dialysis... kekadang mee hoon, nasi goreng, nasi lemak, sandwiches hehehehehe...
While I was waiting for my tankcoff insertion in January I did my dialysis kat Hospital Ampang jugak and now when I return 8 months later, the staff still remember me and they treat me well. Bukan senang nak diterima buat dialysis kat sini sebab waiting listnya amat panjang and they do tight screening and filtering to the well deserved people to be treated here. I am just very lucky because I am considered a CAPD failure case and such cases are transferred to this place for dialysis treatment. Alhamdulillah.
p/s I will be away this coming Monday onwards (hopefully for not very long) for my tankcoff removal surgery. Do pray for me. Thank you.

An Inspiration

I N.E.E.D
Right now, i really and badly need a HOBBY! I am just easily bored tapi tak tau nak buat apa. Ever since I lost my leg and have to go on dialysis 4 times a day I have become so malas tapi cepat betul bosan.I need a hobby especially on weekends, something that could distract me from feeling lonely tapi Kal El tak nak a hobby that needs to use money - bukan kedekut tapi if a hobby takes up some portion from my income and later on stresses me up, I don't really call that a hobby. Lagipun I have better needs to use my money for medical supplies and what nots related to being sick - costly I tell you gaji juta-juta pun takkan cukup!
I wanna do something yang, well, not totally free and not too expensive either, suitable for a handicapped like me. Also suitable for someone who has to have a clean and sterile place for dialysis every five to six hourly. Hmmmm apa ek, oh yes, and something that does not confine me within these four walls that I call my home - cerewet tapi that's what I need right now - to go out!
Not that I hate being at home but I have stayed home too much lately and I want to see the world and enjoy my life like I used to. I miss those days when I was free to do and go wherever I want. Now that I have Ms. Livvy I think I am a step closer to being 'free' tapi do not know what I want to do exactly.
I wish that I can have my dearest on weekends but that is just impossible. I am not sure whether my dearest really spend time with the family or with friends or god knows who but it is impossible to get this love of my life to be here on weekends with me. Simply couldn't or refuse to, I just don't know. Worse still, lately my dearest returns home very late on Sundays - the more reason why I need to get out and enjoy myself, alone.
Movies? Maybe not. I have been watching too much movies and sitcoms ever since I got sick - imagine watching 4 - 5 movies every weekend? Furthermore I rather go to the movies with my better half.
So, whoever is reading this and if you think you know me, or even if you do not personally know me, if you know what I like, maybe what I used to like doing (banyak dah hilang ingatan sekarang ni) please, suggest me a hobby. I thank you if you do. I really need a hobby real soon for my sanity.

Ms Livvy and Me

I love the car, indeed love it so much - the fact that I now have two cars to maintain scares me though - but what the heck, one is for KN to use and this one, I need it to transport the PD solution from HKL and what's most important is so that I will be able to drive again! What's better is that both Mr. Kellu (My first car) and Ms. Livvy here share the same number - WKT 1048 and WST 1048!

Well, that's what I've done - I've driven for the first time in more than a year! Takutttt sangat especially when I have to drive using my left foot and while my right prosthethic is detached - susah nak drive with a feeling-less leg getting into the way. So therefore, I have decided that I do not need the modification done after all... yey jimat RM3k!

This will be her once a month routine.

Kal El: Hopes for the best - mampu bekerja dan bayo hutang ahahahah...

B.O.R.E.D
On weekends Kal El tak pergi mana, terperap kat rumah sorang-sorang since KN as usual balik rumah parents dia and lately ni dia balik lambat sangat on Sundays. Kalau dulu-dulu petang dah balik by 3 or 4pm kadangkala tu pagi lagi dah sampai. Lately ni selagi tak gelap, tak malam dia takkan sampai rumah.
I am not complaining (hehehe abis tu apa ke namanya ni?) Kal El bersyukur I still go out to work and can enjoy the MRR2 scenery everytime, to and from work and once a while kalau ada meetings kat KLCC ke, I get tosee the scenery from office to KLCC and back. I just need to pour this out. Sometimes I feel sesak nafas having to stay indoors all the time. I haven't been driving and since the car currently is manual manouvre, I can forget about ever wanting to drive. I depend on others to take me around tapi there's just no one to do so.
My siblings dengan hidup diorang, well, I know they love me but I can't them and interrupt their lives just to take me out tapi apa salahnya once in a while do so with a brother? I know somehow KN pi jalan-jalan bila dia balik Shah Alam, without me. I don't blame KN at all. Mungkin dia rasa leceh bawa orang kurang upaya macam Kal El ni. Ye la, jalan lambat, susah nak panjat tangga, kene pimpin, cepat letih, and I have to stricly follow my dialysis schedule - every 5 hours otherwise I'll have to plan my outings (if ever there was going to be any lah). Atau mungkin dia malu punya seseorang seperti aku.
I cannot say much. KN has done alot for me lately. Kalau aku bising or complain I will sound macam tak kenang budi but I just want my life to be like it was before - I want to gout for weekly movies, pi karaoke, gastronomic outings. I am tired of having to stay home especially on weekends. When at home, I am confined to my bedroom, nak tengok astro pun tak lalu. I watch movies (kekadang 5 - 6 movies per weekend), TV series downloaded from the Internet and godeh-godeh Internet dengan laptop ni. I have plenty of office work but weekends? Please la, nak fikir pasal kerja pun malas on weekends.
Most of the time Kal El sedih. On Sundays I would be waiting and hoping KN would come back early and take me out sampaikan everytime I would end up going to bed early just to cover my frustration. But how can I tell KN what I want? Kesian kat dia pun...
I just wish things are not so much different than before my leg was amputated or before I am diagnosed with renal failure. Sampaikan our trip to Makassar in April pun KN cancelled. Aku turutkan aja sebab afterall, KN yang akan jaga Kal El kat sana nanti. Takpe lah, burn saja tiket tu, what's done cannot be undone and Air Asia pun takkan bagi refund. Let it be.
Right now I will say yes walau ke mana pun orang ajak aku pergi. I just want the opportunity to go out to see the world. I have lost so much in life and this shouldn't be one of it. I work hard to be able to enjoy what I earn. It's frustrating, dissapointing that the fruits of my labor cannot be tasted but instead habis bayar loan and what nots.
I'm sorry for writing like this but I just need to get it out my system. There's no flow to what I wrote, theres no coherence even.
I am trapped, I am jailed inside my own home.

One Step Closer...
So back to the car, the SA (sales assistant) came to our condo at 10:30am, discussed a few things and paid the booking fee - blom deposit lagi just booking fee and submitted the necessary documents. Lepas tu KN test drive.. aku duk belakang je hehehe...
InsyaAllah macam ni ler gamaknye ropanya...The loan insyaallah will be processed next week and the car should be out soon after that tapi too bad Kal El belum boleh drive sebab kene submit medical report and photographs to JPJ and what not kat Putrajaya for their modification approval. Lepas approval (which according to the SA would take about 2 months - sigh, kerajaan! - baru la Tan Chong boleh modify (crap sangat dapat keta baru tapi tak bleh drive... naik jadik co-pilot je la nampaknya...)
The modification that will take place - accelerator ngan brake dekat steering - cool! Macam F1 car plak gamaknya hehehe....
Tak sabar nak start driving balik, dah setahun tak driving langsung...

My New Super Leg!
Alhamdulillah, it has been over a month since Kal El pakai prosthetic ni... and syukur pada Allah He has given me the chance to walk again dan proses Kal El sembuh dan belajar berjalan begitu singkat dan mudah.
My Bionic Leg (as I like to call it) costs me RM7.5k and it was worth the money spent - this prosthethic memang senang nak guna - even the people at the kedai (Lee @ Taman Midah Cheras) pun very helpful and friendly.

Since about a week after dapat kaki ni Kal El mula kerja di tempat baru, I refused to use cruthes to walk so like it or not I had to learn to walk fast - memang betul, I only had to use crutches to the new office for a couple of days and wallah lepas tu I wa swalking using my two feet again.
It does feel funny walking with an artificial leg and of course Kal El sekarang ni limping lah but the most important thing is I can walk and enjoy life again.
Again, Syukur Alhamdulillah Allah permudahkan segala urusan Kal El selama ini. Amin.

Filipino Market and Pasar Ikan Masin – Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

a.k.a Pasar Filipino @ Filipino Market
The hotel we stayed in was very near to the Filipino Market, Pasar Buah and Pasar Ikan Masin. That Sunday before we returned to KL there was also a Tamu there. Unfortunately since I had to control my fluid intake due to this darn renal failure I had to refrain myself from gulping the young coconut drink that was in abundance in KK. I still remember the last time I was in there in 2003, that was the only drink I took in KK.
Gamat Kering dan Ikan Kering @ Pasar Ikan Masin
One thing about Malaysians, they do like to stare - pantang tengok orang pelik (Ye la takde kaki kan... pelik la) masing-masing tengok-tengok tanpa segan silu dan cover-cover - macam nampak alien ke nampak hantu pulak... lantak la hehehe (emotional kejap)
We had the chance to shop at Pasar Ikan Masin - Ka'ngah and Mak kirim terubuk Sarawak and we also bought Belacan Papar which our friend Zurry recommended saying sedap gila (lepas rasa macam sama je ngan belacan Semenanjung). We also bought tit bits to be given away to family members back home. Pasar Ikan Masin memang la a heaven for Ikan Masin lovers, providing you bring the extra cash as these things can be costly! As for me yang tak makan ikan ni, huhuhu I don't at all enjoy the smell of that place, buweeekk!
